We the Living -
80th Anniversary Restoration Project

We the Living 80th Anniversary Restoration Project

We the Living premiered in 1942 and to celebrate the 80th anniversary of this extraordinary film

Duncan Scott Productions produced a new edition of the film that is digitally restored, rejuvenated–and in high-definition for the first time.

Preparing this new release was a massive undertaking that spanned over two years. High-definition digital scans made using the master 35mm negatives that had been recovered in Italy in 1968 by Ayn Rand’s associates, Henry and Erika Holzer. Then, state-of-the-art digital software technology was used to clean up and repair the entire film, frame by frame, removing scratches, dirt, and other flaws that are common in old movies. Improvements to exposure and contrast were also made and audio fidelity restored.

We the Living: The 80th Anniversary Restoration had its world premiere in New York City on June 12, 2023. It is now being shown at art-house movie theaters, film festivals, and sponsored special events.  It will soon be available worldwide as video-on-demand and on Blu-ray DVD.
